Wednesday and Thursday saw Playground Surfaces (GLS) on the North East coast in Hartlepool. GLS have carried out a number of surfacing contracts for Hartlepool Borough Council, most of which have been to repair their old wetpour.
Beneath two roundabouts and a junior multi play unit, the wet pour had become damaged due to poor installtion and continued vandalism. There were a number of patch repairs that had held off the inevitable full repair/cover over for some time, but the safety surface was that bad that the council had made the decision to cover over the wet pour with Notts Sport ChildsPlay.
A 10mm channel was cut around the perimeter of the wet pour surfacing and the carpet was seamed together, oversanded and then bolstered into the 10mm groove. This is one of the neatest fixing solutions, but the only slight drawback is in a few cases the tarmac is not sound enough to take the pressure of the carpet being bolstered into the groove.
The council were pleased with the completed jobs and GLS were, of course, grateful for the work.
